Lions Tour 2013 Campervan HireThe British and Irish Lions are a true sporting collaboration, though the various countries making up the UK do not always get along, especially on the sports field, for this team they put aside their differences. The team has a long history, with combined British and Irish rugby teams having headed south to meet their tough southern opposition as early as 1888. The ferocious emblem on the players’ jerseys between the two World Wars gave them their name. The team found their feet in the 1950s, with a slew of wins against the southern hemisphere teams of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They also won a test series against the All Blacks in 1971, and a rather violent series against South Africa in 1974. With no luck in test series since then, and a narrow loss to the Wallabies in 2001, the Lions are out for redemption in their Australia 2013 tour!
The tour kicks off on the 1st of June 2013 in Hong Kong, with a game against the Barbarians, then the lions head to Australia and start off their campaign against the Western Force in Perth (5 June), the Queensland Reds in Brisbane (8 June), the Combined NSW - Queensland Country at in Newcastle, NSW (11 June) , the NSW Waratahs in Sydney (15 June) and the ACT Brumbies in Canberra on the 18th of June. Their last non-test game is after the first of the test series, against the Melbourne Rebels on the 25th.
There will be 3 test games against the Wallabies, the first on the 22nd of June in Brisbane before the Melbourne Rebels game. The second takes place on the 29th of June in Melbourne, and the final one in Sydney on the 6th of July.
So for those intending to join in the great tradition of tour following, a motorhome rental is a great way to do this, as it renders you completely mobile, with the ability to pick up and take your accommodation on to the next destination with no fuss! Hires can be picked up from all cities on the tour- Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Gold Coast and Newcastle so you can create your own itinerary to see as many games and as much of the beautiful Australia as possible.
The true-blue Lions fans may want to see all fixtures, and the recommended itinerary for that is to arrive in Brisbane, tour all the games against state and local teams (possibly missing the one in Perth!), and make your way to Melbourne for the second test series game. Then continue on to Sydney for the final Lions game. An abbreviated version is to arrive in Brisbane for the first test match, fly to Melbourne for the second one and there pick up your Motorhome and drive to Sydney for the last lions game. After the final game, the rest of Australia beckons, and a motorhome is the perfect way to explore, so hit the road!
Motorhomes for rent are a hot commodity at tour times, and this will be no exception, so book as soon as possible, preferably NOW, if you want to be a part of this event! (please keep in mind Australia school holidays range from the 21st of June - 22 July, vehicle availability will be limited)
